Firebirds 18U-A won the championship in the York Presidents Day tournament
To start the weekend off, the Lancaster Firebirds 18U team played Tri-City on Friday afternoon winning 1-0 with a goal by Gavin Patterson from Jared Barnett late in the third and a shutout performance from Jared Gordon. Later that evening the boys played the Peninsula Prowl winning by a 5-0 margin. Saturday afternoon the boys faced off against the Susquehanna Stampede coming out victors in 3-0 fashion, qualifying for the championship game Sunday.
The Birds won the York Presidents day tournament Sunday with a thrilling 3-2 final in overtime from a short-handed goal by Jared Barnett over the eagles from Tri-City. Both Jared Gordon and Neel Mahapatra combined for a total of 11 straight shutout periods of hockey.
To cap off the end of the Lancaster Firebirds season and careers as the majority of the team will go off to either military or college next year where some plan to continue their hockey careers.
