The Firebirds 14U-AA team won the Congressional Cup Tournament this past weekend with a thrilling 1-0 victory in the final against the Capitals Academy from Virginia. Christian Kleckner back-stopped Lancaster with shutout goaltending while Jake Alford provided the only goal of the game. The team played arguably its most complete game of the year in earning the tournament championship in its final game of the season.
Earlier in the day, the Firebirds earned their way into the final with a closely fought 3-2 OT victory over the Triad Storm from North Carolina. The Storm had beaten Lancaster in round-robin play 6-3. Peyton Moritzen provided the OT heroics putting in a rebound off of a goalmouth scramble. The Firebirds qualified for the semi-final by winning two of three games in the round-robin.
Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a great finish to the season!
