16U-AA win all three games in first pre-season action.

The Firebirds 16U-AA team traveled to Connecticut for their first pre-season action of the 2019-20 season.  Friday night saw the 'Birds face-off against the Central Connecticut Capitals, a split-season 16-AA team.  In a back and forth game, the Firebirds prevailed 6-4.  Brock Stitley led the Firebirds with three assists while six different players tallied goals.

On Saturday, the team lined up against the Connecticut Chiefs 15U-AAA squad who play in the AYHL.  The Firebirds played much tighter defence in a very even game, eventually coming out on top by a 3-1 count.  Cart Lutter, Trae Schanberger and Lucas Sockel provided the scoring while Max Bayer was solid in net.

Sunday saw a rematch against the Chiefs 15U-AAA team.  The Chiefs came out of the gate with a lot of energy putting Lancaster in a 2-0 hole by the end of the first period.  The Firebirds found their game in the second, scoring three unanswered goals by Bryce Wyman, Timmy Helmer and Lucas Sockel.  Leading 3-2 in the third, the 'Birds played airtight defence to preserve the win, limiting the Chiefs to five shots in the period.

Head Coach Andy Scott was pleased with the weekend, "Beyond the results on the scoreboard, the coaching staff was really happy with the compete level displayed by the players in all three games against really good competition.  It also gave us a good read on areas where we need to get better.  We definitely want to give a big thank you to Brandon Johnson and Mike Tenney of the Connecticut Chiefs for hosting us this weekend.  The level of competition their teams provided was an excellent test for our guys."

The 16U-AAs return to pre-season action this coming weekend in the Philly Puck Drop Tournament.
