The US Figure Skating
Basic Skills Program is an ice skating program that enables beginning and continuing skaters, of all ages and abilities, to learn the fundamentals of recreational, hockey, or figure skating. Skaters earn badges, meet new friends and have fun as they progress through the various levels within the Basic Skills Program.

The Winter 2012 series is just around the corner. Classes will be offered on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Practice time will be given in the form of public skating admission for each enrolled skater. The class schedule is as follows...
Snow Plow Sam
The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the preschool-age skater develop preliminary coordination and strength
to maneuver on the ice. Snowplow Sam is a big, fuzzy polar bear who loves to skate. Time with Snowplow Sam will allow
preschool children to become comfortable on the ice.
Basic 1 through Basic 5 Classes
The “basic skills” are the fundamentals of the sport. These levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves:
forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns and Mohawks. Upon completion of the Basic 1-5 levels,
skaters will have a basic knowledge of the sport, enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating.
The Bridge Basics (Basic 6-8)
This class continues the fundamental moves necessary to prepare skaters for participation in freestyle programs. It provides a "bridge" for skaters to smoothly transition into the Beyond the Basics classes. Skaters must have completed Basic 5 for participation and are eligible to participate in the Red Rose FSC's Sharper Edges program.
Beyond the Basics (Freestyle Skaters through Pre-preliminary)
This class allows skaters to build on the fundamental skills learned in the Basic levels, by applying them to freestyle elements. Skaters will be introduced to proper warm-up, strengthening, and training techniques, Ice dance, Moves in the Field, Synchronized skating, Artistic skating, Jumps, and Spins! These skaters are eligible to participate in the Red Rose FSC's Sharper Edges program.
Adult Skaters
The Adult curriculum is designed for the beginner adult skater. It will promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques. Divided into four levels, adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated. This is an exciting new program for people who look to skating as an enjoyable part of a fit and healthy lifestyle.
